Here's my annoyance of the day. I have a friend here in Austin who's 97 and in an assisted living situation. She decided she wanted to move and signed an agreement with another facility. This was on Monday (July 31) and the next day she realized the situation was not for her. The new place wanted to be more hands-on than she wanted (they wanted to monitor her food, her comings and goings from the apartment, and other things she felt were too intrusive). She called to cancel the contract the day after she signed and they sent her an "Intent to Vacate" form to sign and want to bill her for 3 months rent (to the tune of about $8,000) to get out of the contract. Since she hasn't actually moved in, how can they send an "Intent to Vacate"? I found contact info for the VP of Sales and Marketing for the new place and we sent her a message. The company is very sketchy about contact info and it was very hard to find anyone to contact. I found the VP because her name was on the registrar record for the umbrella company domain. Who knows if she'll actually respond to the message. I've also contacted a local senior advocacy agency to see if they have ideas. I'm so annoyed!
